August 2022 The school year began in late August when approximately 75 newly hired Quincy Public Schools teachers were welcomed at the annual two day New Teacher Orientation. New teachers learned firsthand about Quincy Public Schools and its expectations, which included Responsibilities of Professional Staff, Student Records Confidentiality, Security and Transportation, Curriculum, Assessment, and Professional Development, Student Support Services, Restorative Practices, English Learner Education, Technology Planning, Special Education, Health Services, Student Support Services and the Educator Evaluation Process and Procedures. September 2022 began with the distribution of 3,300 backpacks, including school supplies, being delivered to our elementary schools. Nothing says new school year like a new backpack!! Special thanks to Cradles to Crayons, NAGE, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Granite, Quincy Credit Union, and Mass Bay Credit Union for their generosity and support of the Annual Backpack and School Supply event!
October 2022 hosted the MICCA-Marching Band Competition at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium where 50 bands from across Massachusetts competed for the grand prize! Special thanks to MountainOne Bank for supporting this event! October also meant the funding of Teacher Mini-Grants and the distribution of $40,000.00 in mini-grant funds to Quincy Public Schools professional staff grant writers. November 2022 brought the annual Fall Gathering Food Drive, where food items were donated by Quincy Public Schools staff, collected, and distributed to the Southwest Community Food Pantry and Germantown Neighborhood Food Pantry. Superintendent Kevin Mulvey was pleased to present each pantry representative a check in the amount of $1,600.00.Special thanks to Baytate Financial and our Quincy Public Schools staff for their food and financial donations.
December 2022 Tis’ the Season, Symphony & Song kicked off the start of another holiday season in Quincy! This exciting event was sponsored by the Mayor of our great city, Thomas P. Koch. Conductor Yoichi Udagawa and the Quincy Symphony Orchestra did not disappoint! A Christmas Singalong and event participation by the John Adams Orchestra, the Merry Minstrels and the combined Quincy High and North Quincy High Concert Choirs and Select Choir were amazing! Proceeds of this wonderful musical event supports Quincy Public Schools Music Department.
January 2023 Interviews were held for Quincy Public Schools Outstanding Vocational Student of the Year, who represented Quincy at the 37th Annual Outstanding Vocational Student Awards Ceremony in Mechanics Hall, Worcester on Thursday, April 13, 2023. More than 50 vocational and technical students from across Massachusetts received the Outstanding Technical Student of Year Award by MAVA and the Massachusetts Career & Technical Educators Organization (MassCTE). Quincy Public Schools students were nominated by their Vocational teachers and were interviewed by a panel of judges from the Quincy School Community Partnership. During the interview process, each student shared their project, which they designed. Special thanks to the judges from the Quincy School ~ Community Partnership who interviewed each candidate. Judges included Stephen Wessling, Wessling Architects, Meghan Giovannoni, Quincy College, Bob O’Leary, Lee Kennedy Company, Michael Rothberg, Baystate Financial, Kimberly Meyer, Granite, and Kristen Robertson, Arbella Foundation.

February 2023 hosted the annual 5th Grade Student Council Leadership Summit. Fifth Grade Student Leaders from each school were selected by their Principals to participate. Students participated in three Leadership Activities, facilitated by both North Quincy and Quincy High Class Officers and staff members from the Hale Family YMCA. Students also listened to Community Leaders, who spoke about what it means to be a leader. Each 5th Grade student leader received a Certificate of Appreciation from their building principal. Special thanks to the Hale Family YMCA for sponsoring this wonderful event!
The Early College High School Symposium was held for approximately 100 North Quincy and Quincy High students at the Marriott Quincy on Friday, February 10, 2023. Students participated in various workshops that supported the Early College High School initiative. Highlighting the day for Senior High School participants was the awarding of one year of free tuition to Quincy College. Special thanks to Quincy College for supporting this event and the students of Quincy Pubic Schools!
March 2023 Dr. Seuss Birthday/ Read Across America was celebrated throughout Quincy Public Schools in March. Guest readers included the Superintendent of Schools Kevin W. Mulvey, Assistant Superintendent of Schools Erin Perkins, Vice Chair of the Quincy School Committee Frank Santoro, School Committee members Kathryn Hubley and Tina Cahill and Antonio Agcaoili from the Quincy Credit Union.
The annual Credit for Life Fair, thanks to our generous sponsors and amazing volunteers, was a huge success for the 200 student participants from both North Quincy and Quincy High Schools. The fair provided students with a better understanding of decisions impacting their spending, skills to be financially wise and the importance of good credit, budgeting, and money management. April 2023 The Boston Celtics and Arbella Foundation once again hosted the CELTICS CARNIVAL on. Friday, April 28, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Student’s hard work, dedication, and persistence earned them a seat in this exceptional stadium and participation in this wonderful celebration. Students that achieved perfect attendance during the challenge months or participated in the Art or Writing contest were invited to attend the Carnival. Congratulations to all winners! Participating schools included South~West, Point Webster and Central Middle Schools. Special thanks to the Boston Celtics Team and Arbella Foundation for sponsoring this event!
